All passengers must bring valid identification (personal identity card or passport) along with the airline ticket and luggage to check-in. Once the check-in has been completed and the hold luggage accepted a boarding pass will be issued. The service is available every day from 06:00 to 18:10.

On the boarding pass you can find the boarding time, gate number and the seat assigned on the aircraft. Please make sure you keep this safe as it will be required at security control and at boarding point. It is anyway advisable to double check the gate number and boarding time on the screens available throughout the terminal as these may change due to unforeseen circumstances.

Lugano Airport is one of the few airports in the world offering a check-in service up to 20 minutes prior to departure.

However, if you are a large group or need special assistance it is advisable to arrive at least an hour before the scheduled departure time. In any eventuality, it is the passenger’s responsibility to check with the airline the maximum time limit allowed for check-in.

Web check-in

Following you can find a list of the airlines offering an online check-in service with departure from Lugano. It’s possible to print at home the boarding pass and once at the airport go to the check-in counter if you have luggage and if otherwise you can proceed straight to security control.

Telephone check-in

Telephone check-in is available up to 24 hours prior to departure. Just call +41 91 610 12 92 and upon arrival at the airport go to the check-in counter with a valid identification document to pick up your boarding pass and drop the hold luggage. The service is available every day from 06:00 to 18:00.

24 hours-before check-in

You can complete all check-in formalities 24 hours prior to scheduled departure by going to the check-in counters at the airport with your tickets, documents and hold luggage. The service is available every day from 08:00 to 17:00.

Travel documents

It is the passenger’s responsibility to check that they have all required documents, such as entry visa, for the country they are travelling to.

United States of America: the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) allows, at certain conditions, the entry in the United States without a visa for Swiss citizens travelling for the purpose of holiday, business and transit for a stay shorter than 90 days. Only travellers in possession of a Swiss electronic passport and containing a biometric chip, can access the Visa Waiver Program.

The Visa Waiver Program is accessible also to citizens of other countries at different conditions therefore it is advisable to seek the correct travel advice from your own country’s Foreign Office Bureau.

All travellers with a VWP must anyway apply for a travel authorization via the Electronic System of Travel Authorization (ESTA) at the latest 72 hours prior to departure.
